MLK Day People's Summit & Rally 2011

On January 17th, 2011, hundreds of people will rally at the State Capitol in Olympia to demand a change. The current economic crisis has led to job loss, home foreclosures, and cuts to education, health care, child care, and other basic services. People of color and low-income people are most affected by this crisis. It is time for our state to act.

The People’s Summit is an opportunity for people to speak truth to power. Even as the state is cutting funding for schools and teachers, health care for children and adults, child care, and other programs, corporations still receive billions in tax subsidies and exemptions. It is time to stand together and demand that our state put people’s welfare before corporate welfare.

The People’s Summit includes a march and rally on the Capitol steps. It also includes skill building workshops, a chance to meet with your lawmakers, and networking with people from around the state. It’s a full day of activities designed to ensure that racial and economic justice is a priority for our state.

By attending or sponsoring the People’s Summit and Rally, you or your organization are joining communities across the state in calling for:

• Racial and Economic Justice
• Health Care for All
• Opportunities for Low Income Families
• Housing and Foreclosure Protections
• An End to Corporate Welfare
